  • Winners of the photo competition “my photographic rio” exhibit their work in New York at the invitation of LCM Commodities and Brazilfoundation

    The Carioca Fund, along with LCM Commodities, organized the photo competition “My Photographic Rio: the city in the eyes of the youth from communities where the police have established a presence.” The competition involved 34 young photographers. And at the invitation of LCM, the winners Saulo Nicolai Barbara, Mariana Correa and Diego de Deus traveled to New York to showcase their work and participate in the company’s end of the year celebration. They were accompanied by the project coordinators Charles Siqueira e Mauricio Hora and Cecilia Perligeiro, coordinator of the Carioca Fund.

     

    Fifteen finalist photos were displayed and auctioned during the event, which took place on December 8, 2011, raising over US$ 17,000 for the Carioca Fund. In addition to the exhibit in New York, an itinerant exhibition will take place in Rio de Janeiro and a website will be created to showcase the competition and to create an image database and permanent forum for exchange among the young participants. A book produced by LCM showcases photos from all of the 34 contestants.

    The Carioca Fund, a BrazilFoundation initiative, mobilizes resources to train youth between the ages of 14-24 in technical and vocational programs so they can be competitive in the expanding job market in Rio de Janeiro. Working with partner institutions, the Carioca Fund invests in local civil society organizations (CSOs) in Rio de Janeiro that help young people complete their secondary education while preparing them for jobs in the formal economy.


  • Cocktail Party at Phaidon Store to Celebrate the New Wallpaper City Guide Rio de Janeiro in support of BrazilFoundation

    New York, June 21st 2012

    The publishing company Phaidon promoted a cocktail reception to celebrate the launch of the new “Wallpaper* City Guide Rio de Janeiro”, written by Scott Mitchem, on June 21st, at Phaidon’s Soho store in New York. Part of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to BrazilFoundation.

    The event had live music by Nanny Assis and caipirinhas provided by Cachaça Leblon. Among the guests were Scott Mitchem and his wife Aline Trindade; Carlos Saldanha, director of the movie Rio, with his wife Isabela Scarpa; artist Janaina Tschape; Cristina Mascarenhas; Carlos Junqueira of Espasso; Sergio Esteves; Kelly Piquet; Carlos Falchi; Carlos Couturier and Moises Micha, of Habita Group; and models Natalia Beber, Tassara Vilaca, Talita Oliveira and Lilian Queiroz. Phaidon organized a selection of contemporary art books devoted to Bernardo Paz, founder of the Inhotim Institute and honoree at the upcoming BrazilFoundation IX Annual Gala.

    The Wallpaper Guide Rio de Janeiro highlights Rio de Janeiro’s design and architecture and it offers a unique selection of the best restaurants, bars, hotels, museums and shops in the city. The guide is published by Phaidon in the United States and by Publifolha in Brazil.

                    


  • BrazilFoundation and Brazil Child Health promoted the 1st Benefit Festa Junina- Children Helping Children, in New York

    New York, June 5th 2011

     

    BrazilFoundation and Brazil Child Health promoted the 1st Benefit Festa Junina Children Helping Children on June 5th 2011, at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York.  The event brought together families, children and friends in a traditional Brazilian Folk celebration. The Forro music set the scene with Nanny Assis and Trio and the quadrilha (traditional square dance) under the able command of Felicia Jennings-Winterle.

     

     

    More than 450 people attended the event, among them were Alessandra Ambrósio with her daughter Anja and her sister Aline; Luciana Curtis, Henrique Gendre and their daughter Cora; Carolina Bittencourt, and daughter Olivia; Mariana with her son Christ; Fabiana Saba (one of the event’s organizers) with her daughter Victoria; Bela Gil, JP Demasi and Flor; Vanessa Grecca and Kira; Tatiana Abraços with her daughters Nina and Isabela; Natalia Beber, and Tassara Vilaca.

     

     

    The event was made possible with the support of the organizing Committee, sponsors, and the support of 70 generous volunteers.   • Cocktail reception in honor of Andrea Dellal, Chair of the BrazilFoundation IX Annual Gala

    New York, May 25, 2011

    Fatima Otero and the BrazilFoundation Gala Host Committee organized a cocktail reception to welcome Andrea Dellal on May 25th, at the residence of Mrs. Otero in New York. Andrea accepted the Foundation’s invitation to be Chair of the BrazilFoundation IX Annual Gala, to take place on September 19th 2011, at the New York Public Library.  Andrea is leading the preparations for the Gala with the support of the event’s PR Carlos Souza and Co-Chair Nizan Guanaes.

     

    Among those in attendance were Ambassador Osmar Chohfi , Consul of Brazil in New York; Carlos Souza; Bebel Gilberto; Rachel Roy; Carlos Couturier of Grupo Habita; Luigi Tadini; Olivier Theyskens; Marina Larroude.  BrazilFoundation CEO Patricia Lobaccaro and Leona Forman, Founding President, proposed a toast to Mrs. Otero, Andrea Dellal, Carlos Souza and the Foundation Board Members in attendance: Roberta Mazzariol, Marcelo Hallake, Marcus Vinicius Ribeiro and Paula Bezerra de Mello.
